As my life as a performer advances, I find myself getting into more and more hotels many times after all the restaraunts have closed. In those cases I've got the choice between eating the left over snacks in my bag from the plane or, ordering pizza from the late night joints.
As a New Jersey born girl, I have high Pizza standards, it's true. Most of the time I shovel whatever City I'm in's "Idea of pizza" in my mouth and pop a couple of tums to ward off indigestion. In short typically, I paid for gooey, under cooked, dough with tasteless red paste topped with canned veggies usually at the tune of 20 bucks.Barf. Well if you happen to be in Pittsburgh check out "Calabrias! located 4911 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224,
Hours Tuesday- F 11am - 10pm Fridays 10- 11 pm and Sundays 11- 10pm.
Calabrias has the most diverse, fantastic pizza short of Trenton and Chicago) I've ever had. I ordered a Pepperoni, Mushroom and Anchovy ( don't judge me) lol pizza around 930pm. At first I was leary, the woman on the phone sounded like she 16 and she didnt give damn but I am learning don't judge the host to be the total experience.
The pizza was there within a half an hour, piping hot, and as I carefully opened the box before me was.... FRESH PRODUCE. Fantastic beautiful mushrooms, freshly sliced Pepperoni, and of course my little fishy friends. Secondly, the Pizza looked like an work of art, like someone had taken care in their work even though I'm sure I was the 500th pizza of the day. Most importantly when I bit into it, I tasted.... garlic, seasonings fresh not powder) trust me I can taste the difference. And best of all the balance was as the italians say... Perfecto! I was thrilled and within 2 days ate the whole thing, not a bit wasted.
I decided to investigate the Menu further and they also offer a series of pasta, anti pasta, appetizers, salads and..... homemade desserts. So, next time I don't feel like cooking I will check out their venues. (-;
